Authors Note
The 24 hour home and work diary planner with its “backpack of helpers” has been on its journey now since 2000. With the great I.P. lawyers who I now have a very good relationship with, and nondisclosure contracts and contracts and extensions the diary travelled with Collins Debden from 2006 to 2019. (Some websites show the name of the diary as the Collins 24 hour home and work diary, but they were contracted to make the diary for a set time)
Then the diary moved to Croxley/Milford,and the staff were fantastic. Unfortunately large changes in their organisation meant that the diary could not continue under the Milford name. However, the same team who prepared the 2020 diary with a beautiful turquoise cover and easy to follow pages prepared the 2021 diary.
My personal note at the front of each diary since 2008 has shown how the diary pages came about from experiencing myself the juggle between work and home and extended family needs, and seeing the same for those around me. I have now been in practice for 40 years hearing the daily life experiences of thousands of people, as well as travelling to remote areas for the large scientific community (CSIRO). There I heard some scientists say their focus on research meant ignoring family with sometimes sad consequences. Other people put their focus on work so much they forgot about their own joy and bodycare. From my client stories, I realized that there was a gap in the diary field to be covered for people like tradesmen, who had their work, their home renovation and sometimes share care of children. It seemed that a permanent record that was signable at times was needed.
I saw that when people wanted to stay in their home with multiple carers there was a need for immediately readable time management and notes book in the kitchen or front hall. People in recovery needed methods to chunk their planning as they recovered. Then there were the mums with young babies or unwell children who needed an all night record. From family and work connections I saw the life of cattle property owners, and war veterans. Then the retired people needed new project pages. By using and removing highlights and goals pages, you have your basis for the family history file or the Christmas note.
You might identify with one of these life stories.
This is probably the reason the diary works. My motivation was desire to help people have better life quality while my experience said flexibility was needed to suit different people’s needs.
Your feedback has been invaluable. We continue to encourage your suggestions with a survey at the back. In future our donations will go to the World Wildlife Fund and Assistance Dogs Australia.
Wishing you a good journey, with your diary in your resource backpack
Dr. Dawn Rayner-Brosnan, PhD.
